Minister of Cultural Heritage: The Key to Saving the National Economy is Tourism Development

The Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism stated that today the key to saving the economy is not oil, but the development of the tourism industry. Emphasizing the importance of identifying capacities and resources, he said we must collaborate with domestic and foreign investors and provide banking facilities to develop tourism infrastructure across the country. In a consultation meeting with tourism activists in western Mazandaran, the Minister added that provincial trips play a crucial role in familiarizing with the details and existing obstacles, and each accommodation center must have a defined and documented project.

Iran Charter emphasized that protecting cultural heritage should not harm people’s rights, and we must increase our share of the global tourism market, especially in China. He noted that according to the Seventh Development Plan law, the goal is to attract about 15 million foreign tourists to the country, and this is being pursued.

The Minister added that serious strategies have been prepared for introducing Iran’s capacities and earning foreign exchange through tourism within the country. He stated that in the field of cultural heritage, the responsibilities of registration, protection, and restoration of historical monuments are vested in the ministry, and continuous efforts are underway for this purpose. Moreover, he referred to the tourism infrastructure in Mazandaran province and said that existing airports need to be enhanced to attract more tourists.

Iran Charter stressed that cooperation with Persian Gulf countries for tourism development is necessary, and good communications have been established in this regard. He added that many Shiites worldwide are interested in traveling to Iran, and a suitable environment must be provided for their entry.

At the end of the session, the Minister of Cultural Heritage unveiled two art works by western Mazandaran authors and emphasized that similar activities in other provinces are also on the agenda. He also mentioned outsourcing tasks and slimming down the government, stating that duties should be entrusted to the people, with the government playing a guiding role.
